Travelling to Tahko by public transportation

During the summer season (June 3rd 2024 to August 7th 2024), you can travel from the bus stations of Kuopio and Siilinjärvi to Tahko using Kuopio’s public transport Vilkku bus number 61.

From Kuopio to Tahko

• On weekdays, there is one connection per day from Kuopio bus station (at 11.15 am).
• On Saturdays, there are two connections per day (at 10 am and 3.50 pm).
  • Check the Kuopio-Tahko local transport schedules here (only in Finnish; M-P = Monday to Friday, L = Saturday, S = Sunday, las = bus station).
  • Trains arriving in Kuopio
• On Sundays, bus 61 does not operate to Tahko, only to Nilsiä (at 12.30 pm), where you must continue to Tahko by taxi.
• Ticket price for adults ranges from 5,55€ to 8€, and for children (aged 7-16) from 2,78€ to 4€, see more details.

From Siilinjärvi to Tahko

• On weekdays, there is one connection per day from Siilinjärvi town center (at 7.10 pm).
• On Saturdays, there are two connections per day (at 10.25 am and 4.15 pm).
  • Check the Kuopio-Tahko local transport schedules here (only in Finnish; M-P = Monday to Friday, L = Saturday, S = Sunday, las = bus station).
  • Trains arriving in Siilinjärvi
• On Sundays, bus 61 does not operate to Tahko, only to Nilsiä (at 12.30 pm), where you must continue to Tahko by taxi.

From Kuopio or Siilinjärvi to Nilsiä

• The same bus 61 goes from Kuopio and Siilinjärvi to Nilsiä, with more frequent connections. From Nilsiä, you can continue to Tahko (11 km) by taxi.

From Tahko to Kuopio or Siilinjärvi

• On weekdays there is one connection from Tahko to Kuopio bus station (at 12.40 pm), passing through Siilinjärvi.
• On Saturdays, there are two connections from Tahko to Kuopio and Siilinjärvi by bus (at 11.30 am and 5.15 pm).
• On Sundays, bus 61 does not operate from Tahko to Siilinjärvi or Kuopio. You can travel from Nilsiä to Kuopio and Siilinjärvi with one connection (at 3.45 PM), which requires taking a taxi from Tahko to Nilsiä.

   • VR train Kuopio-Helsinki at 2.11./2.20 pm – 6.40 pm. Check train schedules here.
   • You have about one and a half hours of waiting time in Kuopio, during which you can dine at Travel Center Portti. If you want to visit the city center, luggage storage is provided by Amalia’s Home & Cafe at the railway station.

1. Taxi Tahko-Nilsiä
   • Vilkku bus Nilsiä-Kuopio at 3.45 pm – 4.45 pm.
   • VR train Kuopio-Helsinki at 5 pm – 9.45 pm.
