Visit Rautavaara
Rautavaara – Paradise for nature lovers
Less than an hour’s drive from Tahko, the scenery shifts into the rugged forests, aapa mires, and crystal-clear waters of Rautavaara. The area offers memorable hiking routes in Tiilikkajärvi National Park, pristine berry and mushroom picking grounds, excellent fishing waters along with unique natural sandy beaches.
The distinctive Pumpulikirkko formation, a cracked giant’s kettle (hiidenkirnu), and the sweeping views from Kipari Observation Tower stretching far across the lakes make any visit unforgettable. The landscape changes with the seasons—especially in autumn, when the vibrant fall colors create breathtaking scenery. In winter, well-maintained cross-country ski trails and snowmobile routes extending from Tahko to Rautavaara rank among the best in the region.
Rautavaara is also home to Metsäkartano, a versatile youth and nature tourism center. In addition to accommodation, Metsäkartano offers a wide range of activities as well as rental equipment and gear.
